Abstract

In this study, a 3D geological model of the two egress-style unconformity-type uranium deposits on the Midwest property, Midwest A and Midwest Main, located in the eastern-Athabasca basin of northern Saskatchewan, was developed using the GOCAD Mining Suite. The model was created for the use in resource evaluation in order to understand the controls and constraints on geology and the mineralizing system, allowing for a more confident model and estimate of the uranium mineralization surfaces. The model also delineated prospective exploration targets and identified untested mineralization potential at depth in the Midwest Main deposit at an interpreted triple point zone where the reactivated main conductor trend is intersected by cross-cutting E-W and N-S trending fault systems. These targets, as well as other areas of the model, were tested by five diamond drill holes in the winter of 2018, successfully testing the model and providing further insight into the structural framework of the geology in the Midwest area. Delineation of the fault zones thought to be the main conduit for mineralizing fluids allowed for the refinement of the model. The model will serve as a basis for future fluid flow modelling which is aimed to further understand the origin of the uranium-bearing fluids responsible for the Midwest deposits.
