Membership Functions Constrained by Stratigraphic Parameters
in: 25th gOcad Meeting, ASGA
Abstract
This paper suggests to include stacking of depositional environments deduced from the study of well logs in the stochastic simulation of sedimentary formations. These observations are integrated as linear constraints implemented into the matrix formulation of DSI. The constraints are designed to take into account sedimentology and stratigraphic interpretations such as proportion curves, proportion maps, sedimentary vectors (i.e. landward / seaward stepping) and lithofacies transitions. After a brief theoretical review of previously implemented constraints, a new DSI constraint is presented to bind the gradient of the interpolated property to a given vector field, either previously computed or drawn by the user. This method is applied to estimate the membership functions, the final goal being to improve the stochastic simulation of reservoirs by introducing additional information from the sedimentary studies. The implementation is generic and works on different type of grid objects.
