Shaded relief attribute

in: 23th gOcad Meeting, ASGA

Abstract

Last year we proposed a new method to compute the direction of a vector normal to the main reflectors of a seismic cube. Based on a work by Barnes ([Bar02]), we present here a displaying method of this normal attribute called “shaded relief attribute”. The principle is to illuminate the seismic cube sections using the normal attribute to compute the quantity of light reflected by the section surface. The relief corresponding to the seismic reflectors appears on the plane seismic section as in a topographical map. Then, by controlling the light source position thanks to a specific interface, the interpreter can, for example, better understand faults relationships.
