Abstract
There is a growing interest for depth migration amongst the geophysicists interpreting seismic data. When there are velocity gradients, time migration produces distorted images that can be improved using depth migration. Depth migration is generally applied to unravel complex structures in areas where there are uncertainties on the velocity field ; therefore, it requires a careful and time consuming approach. The 3D depth migration process needs to be fast in order to remain cost effective when corrections of the surfaces are required in an interactive manner. The use of GOCAD software in this case is very beneficial. Depth migration consists of two parts. Worlcing on 3D time migrated sections, it is necessary to do a correction to obtain the true parameters for each point of the interfaces : interval velocities, true position of the interfaces. Therefore, the process of depth migration must be performed in two steps. This first operation is called de-migration or time de-migration. The second step is that of depth migration itself.
