Abstract

The homogenization method is used by geophysicist in order to make wave propagation simulation in a medium with effective properties in order to work with mesh not taking account of small heterogeneities. The homogenization allow to separate the large scale heterogeneities with the small scale one and to remove these small heterogeneities that are too small to impact the wave simulation, these small scale are defined by a single value λ0 defined once for the whole media. The purpose of this study is to determine a new way to describe λ0 in order to change the change the tolerance of the heterogeneity size that need to be smoothed. These small scale are defined by a single value λ0 defined once for the whole media. The first step of this work is the definition of λ0, then the creation of an adaptive filter and the filtration of the properties to create effective properties and finally the simulation of the wave propagation in the different media.
