Abstract

Karst aquifers pose challenges for groundwater flow modeling due to their complex network of underground conduits, which heavily impact flow. Their precise position is hard to know by direct exploration or indirect geophysical method, making their simulation necessary in most cases, as a proxy to the real network. Stochastic simulations of those conduits allow to factor conduit position uncertainty. In previous works, we introduced KarstNSim, a new pseudo-genetic algorithm for stochastic simulation of discrete karst networks, addressing these challenges by incorporating field data to generate realistic karst morphologies.
