Simulation of surface petrophysical heterogeneities on sedimentary objects.
in: Proc. 34th Gocad Meeting, Nancy
Abstract
Sedimentary heterogeneities at multiple scales often have a strong impact on reservoir flow. We propose to simulate small scale heterogeneties that can be deposed at the interface between sedimentary structures (e.g. between accretion figure in channel point bars). The geometries of the considered sedimentary structures are modelled as boundary representation using the Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS). This representation provides a curvilinear framework for petrophysical properties simulations with classical pixel-based geostatistical simulation. In this work, we combine simulation inside the sedimentary bodies and on its bounding surfaces. To import the resulting volumetric heterogeneities into flow simulator software, upscaling is needed. Concerning volumetric heterogeneities, a classic upscaling through a power averaging of the permeability has been realized. Small-scale heterogeneities on interfaces are transformed into transmissibility multipliers applied to faces of the grid cells. The order of deposit and erosion are taken into account through all these procedures.
