Consistent fault modeling using displacement information

in: 22th gOcad Meeting, ASGA

Abstract

Thanks to several recent studies and analysis, knowledge on faults and their effects on fluid flow has greatly been improved. On the other hand, it is now obvious that their impact on hydrocarbon recovery can be of prime importance and has to be quantified. The challenge now consists in improving reservoir modeling tools in such a way that information like realistic fault displacement patterns, sealing or damage zone volume geometry can be taken into account. This paper presents the developement of an evolutive fault modeling tool. This tool has been conceived not only to accurately model geological structures but also has to manage the export of the results into a simulation grid, such as the ones used by the Eclipse flow simulator. As this tool is still under development, we will present here the principles that lead its design plus some early results.
