Abstract

During hydro-fracturing experiment the shear displacements of the rock induced by the fluid injection provide an accoustice emission. This micro-seimicity is interpreted by Shapiro (Shapiro et al, (1997)) as the diffusion of pore pressure in the medium during the test. The hydraulic diffusivity estimated in the reservoir can be directly related to the permeability. This paper presents an improvement of t his method in order to determine the main direction of the permeability tensor of the stimulated reservoir using the shape of t he microseismic cloud developped during the injection test (Shapiro et al, 1999 in press).
