From Detailed Sequence Statigraphic Studies to Reservoir Simulation of a “Simple” Progradational to Retrogradational Succession

Abstract
Detailed studies of reservoir architecture can result in recognition of additional reserves and aid in reservoir management decisions. However there has been considerable difficulty transfering information concerning geological details into models characterizing the reservoir. Using the powerful and flexible capabilities within Gocad, we were able to build a highly detailed model characterizing a reservoir, that was then followed and validated by flow simulation studies. The reservoir in question consists of interstratified sandstones and shales, mostly representing lower shoreface to shelf and deltaic deposition. To improve the waterflood conformance and thus recovery, an integrated study of the reservoir was proposed. This study involved building a highly detailed stratigraphic framework.
