Automatic Creation of a Fault Network Skeleton

in: 17th gOcad Meeting, ASGA

Abstract

The method presented in this paper enables, in an automatic way, to split faulted horizon boundaries into horizon/fault contacts. At the same time, it gathers ail the horizon/fault contacts that belong to a same fault. This method is first applied on each horizon which results in the creation of links between horizon/fault contacts that belong to the hanging wall and to the foot wall of a same fault and links between horizon/fault contacts that belong to connected faults. Then, this method is applied on the horizon/fault contacts detectedfor several horizon and links are set between contacts that belong to a samefault. These links are used to test the geological and topological consistency of the result. The set of horizon/fault contacts and their associated links build the skeleton of a FaultNetwork, a new object which gathers ail faults that compose a fault network and connectivity between faults.
