Abstract
A structural model is defined M a set of interconnected horizons and faults subdividing the 3D space into volumic regions. In GOCAD, the new topological model is based on the notions of G-Maps, relying on a formai algebraic approach. This results in a dean definition of the objects, involving much simpler data structures. Moreover, the mathematical definition of a G-Map encompasses a larger dass of objects than other approaches, thus providing new methods introduced in the paper. The GMap approach makes it possible to deline a unifying model, enabling ta federate different topological databMes. The paper shows how the run-time interpretation of any topological model in term of a G-Map can be performed by the topological databMe. This feature enables to eMily reuse and integrate various sources of code within a unified framework.
