Seismic interpretation of salt geobodies using texture attributes.

Abstract
Salt has always been challenging and time-consuming in seismic interpretation. Over the two last decades, more and more works have focused on the (semi-)automatic interpretation of salt bodies. While such methods ensure a significant time reduction, they are, however, not perfect and interpreters have to pay special attention to the quality control of the solution. In this paper, we propose first a brief review of the different mechanisms that are implied in salt tectonics, with a focus on the formation of the different salt structures. We then present a set of commonly used seismic attributes and the different methods used nowadays in automatic salt extraction workflows. We finally discuss a way to incorporate uncertainty assessment into salt interpretation by computing a salt presence probability map and generating stochastic realizations of the salt boundaries.
