Integrating the thermass flow simulator into gOcad

in: 21st GOCAD MEETING, Nancy

Abstract

Thermass is a flow simulator written in C using G°CAD 3D objects as a support for geometry and properties. It solves a set of 3D Partial Differential Equations (PDE) using finite elements methods and can be used in a number of problems encountered in numerical geology. It has been interfaced as a plugin in G°CAD. The step of integration is described in this paper including several cases studies such as modelling an incompressible single phase fluid flow in a sandstone channel geobody meandering into clastic clay sediments. A special interfaced has been developed to upscale tensorial properties on a coarse grid block from a scalar heterogenous fine SGrid. Compared to other methods, this upscaling gives good results in particular, it respects the anisotropy and the tensorial property of the medium.
