Abstract:
This work was made during my last ENSG internship which took place in the R&D team of CCR (Caisse Centrale de Réassurance) based in Paris (157 boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris). One of the purposes of CCR is to forecast and think ahead damages on goods that would cause strong earthquakes both in French metropolis and West Indies by, on one hand, developing a stochastic earthquake generator and on the other hand, coupling this seismic hazard generator with vulnerability and damage modules to have a probabilistic understanding of the losses due to earthquakes in France.
This work was divided into 3 parts :
- Dividing French metropolis and West Indies into different seismotectonic zones and characterizing seismicity into theses zones through some independent parameters. It can be possible, then, to define the Gutenberg-Richter law parameters for each zone.
- Developing a stochastic earthquake generator which takes into account the parameters determined in the first step, in each seismotectonic zones.
- Selecting and implementing ground motion prediction equations to calculate the seismic hazard: the peak ground acceleration (PGA).
