This presentation will present a general overview of the design of experiments.
Computer experiments are nowadays widely used to model and analyze physical phenomena and they are in the heart of our research in the RING Team. Given the large number of parameters often included in the simulations, it would be very time consuming to run all the simulations with all the possible parameters values. A design of the experiment allows to obtain a global view of the phenomena and to understand the interactions between the various parameters with a limited number of runs. Due to the specificities of computer experiments, the designs have different features than for real physical experiments. In this presentation, the common designs used for computer experiments are explained and an application based on the simulation of the temperature field in a geothermal reservoir is developed.
